Challenging the status quo
It's not easy to have opinions that go against the grain, but it helps that we're right.
Throughout the interviews we released last week, it seemed there was a consistent theme. The guests all discussed the struggles they have advocating for freedom, all of them unique to their own pursuit, yet all of them quite familiar to a similar cause.
In Episode #15 with Matt Bufton, we talked about the work his organization, The Institute for Liberal Studies, does curating discussions on political and economic freedom at Canadian Universities. While Matt feels that many of the horror stories about leftist radicals on campus are overblown, he admits that there does exist a political monoculture on campuses that makes it difficult for students and faculty to conceive a world where things aren’t provided by government.
In Episode #14 with Jacques Boudreau, leader of The Libertarian Party of Canada, he talks about what a holistic approach to the pandemic response might have looked like, why you should reject bumper sticker political slogans like “follow the science”, and how the mainstream ignored common sense initiatives like the Great Barrington Declaration. Needless to say, even now, as mandates and restrictions are disappearing, common sense remains the enemy of the state policy.
In Episode #13 with Derek Fildebrandt, we recorded in his office at The Western Standard. Derek has - in part - built his brand around refusing any government subsidies, and in todays media environment in Canada that’s a hard pill to swallow when you know that you are actively subsidizing your competition. We also get into the glaringly obvious conflicts of interest regarding a state-run or state-subsidized media.
I hope you enjoy these stories.

Hi Darcy,
I really enjoyed your podcasts discussing common sense (not so common these days) and especially on immigration. It seems to me that this issues is closely connected to another taboo issue - population. I believe that Canada needs a fair and meaningful population policy based on a carrying capacity study and comprehensive public consultation process. I would love to be a guest on your podcast and discuss my perspective from my book EIGHT BILLION REASONS POPULATION MATTERS that you can find on my website www.populationinsync.net. My email address is valcrows@yahoo.ca, so please let me know what you think. Best, Val
